Vienna style wall clock - 30/07/2007
Recently a customer living near Stratford-on-Avon was looking for a Vienna style wall clock. One of the range by Comitti of London appealed but he was unable to find the model he wanted in the shops he contacted. Web enquiries did not produce a response until he found our site.

ABOUT US
City Clocks was founded by my grandfather in the late 19th century. I am Jeffrey Rosson, a Fellow of The British Horological Institute and third generation Horologist. I carefully choose every clock and watch for sale after checking quality, style and reliability.
Each repair is carried out by me or under my direction. My team of dedicated, qualified craftsmen are thorough and all our work is fully guaranteed.
From London and Shrewsbury we make sure our clients all over the United Kingdom are looked after. We attend to clocks in public buildings, museums, boardrooms, wine bars, stately homes, farmhouses, town houses and small apartments. As a craftsmen I have ventured throughout Europe, USA, Australia and Scandinavia. Shropshire, Cheshire, London and the Home Counties hold our main client base. English longcase or ‘grandfather’ clocks and fusee bracket clocks are our speciality although almost all clocks and watches are cared for. Clients appreciate the care and attention experienced; qualified craftsmen give to their valued timepieces. From robust school clocks to rare musical grandfathers all share traditional care and attention to detail. We will visit your grandfather at home or in the office. Many home visits I do personally and will sometimes spend several days working on a clock collection on site.
Fortnum and Mason commissioned a replica of their famous automata clock that is their trademark. This, the largest portable automata clock in the world, tours the world promoting Fortnum and Masons products. A recent architectural project was the world time clock at 120 Cheapside. At ten feet in diameter this clock has the largest clock wheel known and has a pendulum weighing 140 lb. These great clocks contrast with a car clock built for an Aston Martin and a solid silver clock for customers Rolls Royce. Recently a retirement presentation clock displayed through a window in the dial a morphed pictorial representation of the recipient’s entire career moving through each hour. Retirement and presentation clocks are often shaped to represent a building or piece of machinery that is personal.
Hand Built Traditional Clocks
Over 100 years of craftsmanship backs up our range of traditional hand built clocks available to mark any special occasion. Over 150 clocks and barometers for sale are featured on this website. The dates indicated are the date of the original design. A magnificent longcase clock will provide dignity for hallways or boardrooms. A bracket clock will enhance a dining room while a traditional dial clock adds style to a family kitchen. Our carriage clocks with their delicate construction give a romantic touch to any bedroom. Most of these clocks are available within about six to eight weeks. Traditional grandfather clocks are personally delivered and set up free on mainland UK, a little extra elsewhere. For something very special we are able to design and build for you. Our replica of their famous Piccadilly, London clock for Fortnum and Mason has travelled the world and is believed to be the largest portable automata clock in the world.

BAROMETERS
Evangelista Torricelli invented Mercury barometers in the 1640’s. Initially instruments made were of the stick type. The later and more popular ‘banjo’ style, was derived from the wheel barometer invented by Robert Hooke in 1665. A smaller and more portable aneroid barometer was invented by a Frenchman, Lucien Vidie (1805-66). The French establishment was not impressed with his instrument, claiming that without mercury it would not work! In England he found a warmer reception and the design was patented in London in 1844. The architects and furniture makers Robert Adams and Thomas Sheraton influenced the cabinet decoration and styling of the early makers. The designs we offer today include many examples of our early work, classics typical of the period.
